This memorial is dedicated to the victims of the coal mine explotion 1962 at Luisenthal Coal Mine.
On February 7, 1962, a methane and coal dust explosion killed 299 miners and hurt 73.
The monument that portrayed Saint Barbara, patron of mine workers, was inaugurated in 1964. There are still commemortations on February 7th at this memorial place.

Dieses Denkmal ist den Opfern des Grubenunglücks auf der Grube Luisenthal 1962 gewidmet.
Am Februar 1962 ereignete sich eine Methangas und Kohlestaubexplosion, bei der 299 Bergleute getötet und 73 verletzt wurden.
Dieses Denkmal, dass die Heilige Barbara, Schutzpatronin der Bergleute darstellt,wurde 1964 eingeweiht. Noch heute finden an jedem 7. Februar Gedenkveranstaltungen dort statt.
