De Lebbestaok
Waar de Schaapdijk en de Veldweg samen komen, staat de Lebbestaok. Nu staat er een gedenksteen. Vroeger werd deze plek aangegeven door middel van een geschilde jonge eik.
Op deze plaats, toen nog woeste heide, zou in het verre verleden, op een kaart uit 1639 staat deze staok reeds vermeld, een dode vrouw zijn gevonden, genaamd 'Lebbe'. De boeren uit Peest wilden niet voor de begrafeniskosten opdraaien en beweerden dat de vrouw niet in hun marke lag. De boeren uit Zeijen waren er stellig van overtuigd dat de vrouw wel in de Peester marke lag. Uit eindelijk hebben de boeren van Zeijen de vrouw begraven met het beding dat de vindplaats tevens de scheiding werd tussen de beide markes. Het schijnt dat Peest toen heel wat hectares van haar marke is kwijt geraakt.

Where the Schaapdijk and the Veldweg meet, you can find a blanc pole known in the area as the ‘Lebbestaok’. (‘stoak’ is Dutch dialect for pole) On a map of 1639 this pole is already mentioned.
Since a few years there is a memorial stone too. In the past, this spot was indicated by means of a peeled young oak.
The story goes that at this place, then still moor, the body of a dead woman named "Lebbe” was found.
The farmers of the little hamlet Peest did not want to pay for the funeral of the dead woman and claimed that the woman was not in their land. The farmers of the hamlet of Zeijen were convinced that the woman was laying in the area of Peest.
Eventually the farmers of Zeijen buried the woman under the condition that the site were she was found from that point on definitely belonged to Zeijen instead of Peest. A pole was places at the newe border of Zeijen and Peest. The pole was since that time known as the Lebbestoak
It is told that by this action Peest lost many hectares of its area to Zeijen.
Another story says:
A sign on a big boulder, which serves as a marker stone, on the roadside. A plaque with a clumsy rhyme refers to a tragic history that would have happened here. According to an old story at this site a woman called Lebbe was murdered way back in time (around 1500?). A brutal robbery?. The inhabitants of Peest did not pay for the funeral, but the people of Zeijen did. This was not done as an act of kindness , but for pure pragmatic reasons. Because if they buried the dead, the land would automatically belong to them. At the grave they put a pole, the Lebbestaok, that served from that day on as boundary marker.
If it's all true or not, the history gives passers in this desolate place just a beautiful legend On maps however, the border of Zeijen has a weird angle just at this very spot.
