In Canton, within minutes of Boston, is the William F. Rogers Ski Area, also known as Blue Hills Ski Slope.

The ski slope is located on the northwest side of Great Blue Hill, the largest of a small chain of round hills in the Canton, Milton, and Quincy area. The parking lot is off Mass. Route 138, about a mile north of the intersection of Route 138 and I-93.

The location is part of the Blue Hills Reservation, owned and maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. The ski area is currently operated by a private operation that also operates Jay Peak in Vermont. Currently, the ski area is undergoing major renovations, so the facilities described may be even better in the future.

The hill itself is 635 ft high at the summit. While not very high, it is the highest elevation within a few miles of the ocean south of Maine. The ski slope doesn't go to the summit. The slope drop is 309 ft, according to the web site. There are several slopes to ski on. There is a two-person chair lift on one side. On the other side, newly installed moving belts (300 ft magic carpet and 80 ft wonder carpet) to transport people higher up a wide open area. According to the web site, 90% of the slopes have artificial snow making equipment (Lenko snow guns - this seems a little high, but I don't have much else to go by). Future expansion to all slopes is planned.

At the base are several buildings. One building has the concession stand. Another building has the rental facility and a retail store. The rentals are for skis or snowboards. Daily rental is available to all; seasonal rental is available for season ticket holders only. Another building a pump house at the base.

I could only find prices for seasonal passes. They are [2016] $279 for one pass, and discounts for additional passes for families. This is what is entered for ticket price, below.

Lessons are available here. There are both group and private lessons. They are listed on the web site.
