While strolling along the Halifax waterfront, what should we come upon but a Segway rental outlet?

Segway Nova Scotia was actually the inspiration for this category. Our first thought on seeing the Segway Nova Scotia outlet was, what a cool way to get around. Actually, what we first saw was a group of Segway riders scooting (gliding, we understand, is the correct term) along, which caused us to believe that there must be a Segway outlet nearby. A quick examination of a nearby You Are Here map exposed their location, so we headed in that direction. When we arrived we noticed about fifteen Segways awaiting riders and at least twice that many riders awaiting Segways. Given several more Segways in use on the training ground and others out touring around the city, they seem to have quite a respectable number of Segways available.

And, unfortunately, we were unable to partake of the fun and adventure afforded by these enigmatic machines. This was our last day in Halifax and we were killing a couple of hours before flight time by touring the waterfront once again. The time to head for the airport was nearly at hand when we discovered Segway Nova Scotia or we would definitely have taken a couple for a "spin around the block".

Segway Nova Scotia is headquartered in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia, which is along Highway 213 about 10 kilometres northwest of Halifax. Their major outlet is on the Halifax harbourfront at Lower Water Street & Salter Street. There they have set up an office building, Segway storage and a training ground on which everyone receives sufficient training to ensure the safety of both themselves and innocent bystanders. Training and orientation will take about about 10 - 30 minutes, depending on an individual's ability to adapt to the Segway. Segway Nova Scotia also has a second, smaller, outlet at Lakeside Industrial Park, from which they offer tours only (no rentals). These tours are about 2 hours in length and take one out to Cranberry Lake along the Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Rail Trail.

Though a major portion of their income comes from offering guided Halifax Waterfront & City Tours, they rent a great many Segways to individuals who simply wish to scoot about the harbourfront and the downtown area. For those who simply can't get enough of the Segway, they also sell several different models, including both city and back road models.

Their rental schedule, is available online, at the link provided below.
