Located in the Souché neighborhood, the cemetery of Sablières was established in 1899 and covers nearly 4 hectares. It has a military section where lie 179 soldiers and victims of wars 1914-1918 and 1939-1945.
As part of the commemorations of the centenary of the Great War, a memorial ceremony was held on November 1, 2014 at Square Military Cemetery of Sablières of Niort.
On this occasion was unveiled an information desk designed by Jean-Charles Verdier, Departmental Service of the Director of ONACVG.
The desk in question tells the story of the square and honors those buried there, especially in the first soldier buried on 13 September 1914 and the only woman, the resistant Ezilda BAR, died in the prison of Pierre Levée Poitiers, June 1, 1944, as a result of beatings inflicted on him.

Situé dans le quartier de Souché, le cimetière des Sablières a été créé en 1899 et s'étend sur près de 4 hectares. Il abrite un carré militaire où reposent 179 soldats et victimes des guerres 1914-1918 et 1939-1945.
Dans le cadre des commémorations du centenaire de la Grande Guerre, une cérémonie du souvenir s’est déroulée le 1er novembre 2014 au Carré Militaire du Cimetière des Sablières de NIORT.
A cette occasion a été dévoilé un pupitre d’information conçu par Jean-Charles VERDIER, Directeur du Service Départemental de l’ONACVG.
Le pupitre en question relate l’histoire de ce carré et rend hommage à ceux qui y reposent, tout particulièrement au premier soldat inhumé, le 13 septembre 1914 et à la seule femme, la Résistante Ezilda BARREAU, décédée à la prison de la Pierre Levée à Poitiers, le 1er juin 1944, à la suite des sévices qui lui ont été infligés.
