A tree dedicated to the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, across the street from the Queen Victoria Diamond Jubilee tree (visit link)

"It was thought fitting that a second horse chestnut tree should be planted for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee in June 1977. At noon on Jubilee Day this was planted by Bertie Love and Mrs. N. Draycott, members of the Darby and Joan Club, across Wide Street from the older Jubilee tree. Many people braved the wet weather and the National Anthem was sung afterwards. A stone plaque was set in the ground alongside it."

This oak is a replacement for the original Horse Chestnut tree that once stood at this site -

"March 2007 saw a replacement for the Silver Jubilee tree planted on Round Bank at the top of Wide Street.

The original tree, a horse chestnut planted in 1977, unfortunately contracted a waterborne fungal disease and had to be felled in early 2005.

The new tree, a native Oak, has been planted in the same position and should grow to become an important land mark for the village. A granite plaque is being engraved to provide provenance for the tree and will be sited close by."
