A small old attractive building, serving hand pumped beer pub, in two rooms & a large rear garden. A great place for a Pint on your way up the steep hill from the River towards the Town Center.

• HAUNTED: "A 17th century coaching inn, the Nag’s Head had an ancient sealed room that reports revealed in the 1980s. Since then, there have been reports of heavy breathing, with several people have seen a man in a long cloak or shroud appearing through a wall. Poltergeists have been active with loud poundings in the night. Three people have committed suicide at the Nag’s Head in the past, with are the ghosts that haunt the building. They have been recorded as a coachman who hanged himself; a woman who threw herself out of one of the windows; and a soldier on leave who shot himself. There is also the portrait of a strange person painted on the inside of a pub cupboard. This portraReports claim it to metamorphose into one of the ghosts to haunt the Nag’s Head late at night. The inn has history over five hundred years, with prior to that had been a church. There is a jetted, medieval, half-timbered building at the rear of this pub. It has a history from 1420. "Situated on the historic Wyle Cop, the main features of this Grade II Listed timber framed building are best appreciated externally. There's the upper storey jettying, and to the rear, the timber remnants of a 14th-century hall house including a screened passage. This provided protection from draughts and nowadays, shelter for smokers!. And for a town centre pub, the garden is remarkably large. The old style interior has remained unaltered for many years. The pub can be very busy at times attracting a mixed clientele. But beware, it has the reputation of being haunted and is featured in the Shrewsbury Ghost Trail." Text Source; (

"I suggest you get yourself down to the Nags Head pub on Wyle Cop. It has a painting upstairs on the back of a door supposedly of the devil done by a prisoner of war {WW2}. Russell Preece the landlord took a few of us up there one day to see it, very very odd atmosphere up there. Temperatures that can plummet in seconds. Not only that it's the 'in' pub in town, full of cool people of all ages, mainly out in the garden. From what I've read you'll connect with the vibe I guarantee especially on a Friday or Saturday night. And then Sunday lunchtime, if it's quiet, perhaps Russ would show you around upstairs if you asked him nicely, tell him your a psychic investigator, he's a good guy. Oh! And parts of the building in the garden date back to the 15th century and amazing exposed woodwork it is too, the tales those beams could tell!
