Residents of Nieuw-Schoonebeek have Friday night just after seven buried a treasure chest in the field at the Roman Catholic church of the village.
This happened in the context of the 200th anniversary of the village. Over 100 years, on July 19 2114, the treasury should be dug up and opened again.
Early this year, two residents of Nieuw-Schoonebeek, Frans Veenker and Eric Blaauwe, the idea in the context of the 200th anniversary of the village, which includes stuff from people from the village and a message for the people who 100 years live in the village.
Soon there were pupils of primary school, which as many as 142 pieces handed in to put in the treasury. Other notable things that were buried Friday included newspaper clippings, a book about New Schoonebeek books of the associations Tuuwulp and De Beek, soccer trophies of football player Harm Brokman. The 75-year-old Brokman stopped his sport this year and decided that his football had to be buried too.
A few days later, a copper statue placed on the concrete cover.
This statue is made by artist Jo van der Laan and is named "De Heidebrander".
There is also a plate placed with the text.
"On July 19 2114 the inhabitants of Nieuw-Schoonebeek may dig up and open the treasure chest that is buried below"
