[FR] La maison Bonaparte fut construite sur deux étages au milieu du XVIIe s. Les Bonaparte, l'ayant acquise, la surélèvent d'un étage comprenant une terrasse.
Napoléon y naît le 15 août 1769 (comme le rappelle la plaque placée au dessus de la porte).
En 1793, fuyant une révolte, la famille abandonne la maison. A son retour d'exil, Laetitia, mère de Napoléon, se voit attribuer une indemnité en compensation du pillage occasionné par les troupes anglaises.
Elle réinvestit la somme dans son nouvel aménagement et l'agrémente d'une galerie et d'un nouveau mobilier.
En 1923, le prince Victor, descendant de la famille impériale, lègue la maison natale de Napoléon à l'Etat.
En 1958, l'intérieur de celle-ci est restauré sous l'égide des Monuments Historiques; c'est aujourd'hui un musée national.

Napoleon was born there on 15 August 1769 (as recalled by the plate placed above the door).
In 1793, fleeing an uprising, the family leaves the house. On his return from exile, Laetitia, mother of Napoleon, is given an allowance to compensate for looting caused by British troops.
She reinvests the money in its new development and approval of a gallery and a new furniture.
In 1923, Prince Victor, a descendant of the imperial family, bequeathed the birthplace of Napoleon to the State.
In 1958, the interior is restored under the auspices of Historic Monuments, which is now a national museum.
