Bucharest Zoo was founded in 1955 as a service Sectunii communal economy of the People's Council of the Capital.
At that time, small livestock were scattered in parks Cismigiu, Carol I, Herastrau and Baneasa Forest.
Between 1955-1959 there is a gradual concentration of the animals in the Baneasa Zoological Corner, where 1 May 1959 opened the first season of Enterprise.
Starting in 1962, the institution became the title Zoo Bucharest and in the same year, was included in the International Yearbook of Zoos (International Zoo Yearbook, published by the Zoological Society of London).
The Zoo, with a total area of 5.85 ha, is a settlement that maintains public collections and exhibits of live animals, wild, native and exotic, in order to achieve the two main goals: conservation (with priority endangered species) and training, education and recreation visitors.
