Kibler High School - Tonawanda, NY USA - Former Schools on Waymarking.com

Designed by E.B. Green, Kibler High is architecturally significant as an example of a pre-depression era public school structure. Erected in 1925, the building contained all the necessary facilities for teaching what was thought to be a proper up-to-date education.

This three story light brick building has an imposing appearance with its sweeping entrance of wide steps and ornamental clock tower. The entrance leads to concrete floors with terrazzo flooring and arched ceilings in the corridors and maple in the classrooms. The original building contained 18 classrooms, seven vocational rooms, two administrative offices, a 1000 seat auditorium, gymnasium, library, two study halls, a lunchroom, and four laboratories. It accommodated 800 students and was constructed at a cost of $650,000. In the 1950s and 1960s, two wings were added to the school, one at the north and one at the south end. The south addition has been removed. The north addition should be removed to bring the building back to its original pristine appearance. Sold off by the school district in the early 1980s, the building remained unoccupied and in terrible disrepair for over a decade. Finally, the City of Tonawanda acquired the building in a tax foreclosure and sold it to the Western New York Veterans Housing Coalition who converted the building into senior citizen apartments to the delight of the many former Kibler High School students who now reside inside.
