EN: The old blacksmith shop of Ziefen is located in the village center between the river and the main road. The two-story house bears some representative elements that emphasize the importance of blacksmiths in the 19th century. In addition to the corner pilaster strips, this is especially the pillared porch at the west side, as they were common in police and court buildings. The roof has a merely indicated hip and the river-side wall is made of wood.
The house is dated 1837, but apparently it was built in 1844. The earlier date refers to a previous building, which was replaced by the present one after just a few years. How long the shop was in operation is not documented. From the 1970s there were plans to demolish the house and to straighten the road. This was followed by years of conflicts between different departments, which were completed only in 1995 by a final court order that declared the house a protected monument.
DE: Die alte Schmiede von Ziefen befindet im Dorfkern zwischen dem Bach und der Hauptstrasse. Das zweistöckige Haus besitzt einige repräsentative Elemente, die die Bedeutung der Schmiede im 19. Jahrhundert unterstreichen. Neben den Ecklisenen fällt vor allen die säulengestützte Vorhalle auf, die auch bei Polizei- und Gerichtsgebäuden häufiger vorkommt. Das Dach hat einen nur angedeuteten Walm und die bachseitige Wand ist aus Holz.
Das Haus trägt die Jahreszahl 1837, stammt aber offenbar von 1844. Die ältere Jahreszahl verweist auf einen Vorgängerbau, der nach wenigen Jahren durch den heutigen ersetzt wurde. Bis wann die Schmiede in Betrieb war, ist nicht dokumentiert. Ab den 1970er Jahren gab es Pläne, das Haus abzureissen und die Strasse zu begradigen. Darauf folgten jahrelange Konflikte zwischen verschiedenen Behörden, die erst 1995 endgültig durch eine Gerichtsbeschluss beendet wurden, der das Haus unter Denkmalschutz stellte.
