The Sacred Mount Calvary of Domodossola was built in 1657 on initiative of the Capuchin friars Gioacchino da Cassano and Andrea da Rho. The way of the Cross starts in the south of the city center of Domodossola and winds up to Mount Mattarella.
Most of the statues in the chapels were created by Dionigi Bussola (1615–1686).
The Sacro Monte Calvario of Domodossola is one of the nine Sacri Monti of Piedmont and Lombardy that became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003.
