One of the most popular summertime features is the Ober Gatlinburg Alpine Slide. This awesome experience combines a gorgeous chairlift ride with an exhilarating downhill adventure. Read on to learn everything you need to know about this excellent Gatlinburg attraction.
What to Expect at the Alpine Slide
Before sliding down the mountain, first you have to go up! Guests will enjoy incredible views of the Great Smoky Mountains as they travel to the top in the Ober Gatlinburg Scenic Chairlift. When you reach the mountain’s summit, you’ll be greeted with live bluegrass music from Ober’s official string band.
After your chairlift ride, it’s time for the Alpine Slide! You’ll hop on a sled and whizz down the mountain on a 1,800 foot track filled with twists and turns. During the ride, guests travel through beautiful wooded areas and ski trails. A unique feature of the Alpine Slide is the sled’s handbrake, which allows you to control your own speed. Thrill seekers can push their sled to the limit, while more relaxed riders can enjoy a slower pace.
Requirements to Ride the Alpine Slide
To ride the slide alone, you must be at least seven years old and under 300 pounds. Children 6 and under can ride with a parent or a sibling who is 18 years old or over. Guests must be able to walk to the ride. You don’t need any special skills or clothing.
Ober Gatlinburg Alpine Slide Hours of Operation
The slide will run from 10:00 a.m to 8:45 p.m. seven days a week. The slide will close if there is inclement weather.
