"Simbolo della città lagunare costituisce l'affascinante punto di partenza per un itinerario alla scoperta del centro storico di Comacchio.

Venne edificato intorno al 1638 su disegno dell'architetto Luca Danese di Ravenna per volere del cardinale legato Giovan Battista Pallotta (1631-1634). Il Trepponti o Ponte Pallotta era all'epoca la porta fortificata della città per chi proveniva dal mare lungo il canale navigabile, coeva opera idraulica che portava l'acqua viva e i legni di mare, donando finalmente salubrità alla laguna e una certa prosperità ai suoi abitanti. Il disegno iniziale, con cinque ampie scale ad arco, culminanti in un rialzo interamente in pietra d'Istria, è stato nel corso dei secoli adattato per necessità pratiche ed estetiche, che hanno comportato l'aggiunta ad esempio delle due torri di guardia e dei sei aggrazianti pilastrini in cima alle scalinate. La volta del Trepponti funge da crocevia per quattro canali che da qui si dipartono per la città, circondandola e attraversandola, detti Sant'Agostino, Borgo, San Pietro e Salara. Di fronte al ponte si colloca l'antica Pescheria. Più avanti si trova il cosiddetto Ponte degli Sbirri, poiché eretto a fianco delle prigioni nel '600." (visit link)

"The reason for which this singular structure was built lies in the need for defending the city. In fact, the only means of access was from the confluence of the river ways.

It is certainly the one single building which best represents the lagoon features of the city of Comacchio. It was built in the first half of the seventeenth century, commissioned by Cardinal Pallotta on a plan designed by Luca Danesi from Ravenna. It is formed of five wide rounded staircases, each one extending over one of the canals, topped by a central structure in Istrian stone and two towers. Its purpose was to connect the network of internal canals with the canal leading to the sea. At the foot of the bridge there is a square on which the old fish market was located." (visit link)
