On Mt. Desert Island is Acadia National Park, with a network of gravel roads known as the Carriage Roads, with a major trailhead at Jordan Pond.

Acadia National Park has several entrances. You must get a pass - one pass is $25/car - good for a week. The park's loop road will get to Jordan Pond. Park in one of the lots - it may be crowded so, get there early.

The waymark is where the trail crosses the park loop road. There are gates at this location, as well as a gatehouse. I did not see a trailhead sign, per se. There is a historical sign across the street from the gatehouse that describes the roads. There are wooden sign posts at intersections with directions on them.

The trails were made by John D. Rockerfeller, who used these as carriage roads where horse drawn carriages pulled people around the park instead of automobiles. There are 17 stone bridges within the network, as well.
