EN: The ruins of Thierstein Castle are located at the foot of a hill southwest of Gipf-Oberfrick. The castle was the ancestral home of the Counts of Thierstein and was inhabited from the 10th to the 15th century. In 1934 it was re-excavated and preserved.

The well is located in the middle of the second terrace level of the vast castle. The shaft is today only about two meters deep and secured with an iron gate. Other than usual in the area, the brim of the fountain is not round but square.
