She became locally known as "Granby Girl." When the body was found it was apparent that she was killed 3 to 12 months before being found. There was no identification on the body and fingerprints were gone. In 1978, DNA analysis was unavailable and dental records did not produce a match.
For many years the grave of the "Granby Girl" was marked with a simple white cross that read "Unknown Girl." The people of the town raised $500 for a permanent stone marker. The pink granite grave marker is inscribed:
