The new east entrance was build to give tourists a smoother way into the cave, the natural entrance is about 60 meters below an very steep.

The cave is explored about 67 kilometers and the discovery still hold on. The name mammouth came from the huge caverns inside of the cave.

It is part of the Dachstein-Hallstatt-Region world heritage site.
