This cafe was founded in 1813 in a different location, but it opened in its current spot in 1873.

Since its early moments it became a focus in local culture and important artists used to come for a meal and a coffee: Simone de Beauvoir and Jean Paul Sartre were the most enthusiasts about Les Deux Magots but Albert Camus, Pablo Picasso, James Joyce, Bertolt Brecht and Ernest Hemingway used to come here.
