The historical marker provides text in Lithuanian and English. The English text reads:
"This is the oldest university in the Baltics, founded by the Jesuits in 1579. The old university campus formed during the 16th-18th centuries. It is arranged around 13 courtyards. Features of various styles and periods are notable in the buildings. The central building is for the administration, and is connected to the library, where, among the rare books such as Incunabula, there is an example of the first Lithuanian book, printed in 1547. The most impressive is the Great Courtyard, surrounded by open galleries with frescoes and plaques. The interiors of the university are of great interest, especially the J. Lelewel, P. Smuglevicius and White halls, and the Centre for Lithuanian Studies."
