"Tinghuset i Bergen ligger på Tårnplass 2. Tinghuset er tegnet av bergensarkitekten Egill Reimers i 1928 og bygningen sto ferdig i 1933. Hans premierte utkast hadde mottoet «Respekt for loven». Bygningen har totalt 12 000 kvm fordelt over seks etasjer pluss kjeller og loft. Huset har 25 rettssaler fordelt på Bergen tingrett og Nordhordland tingrett. Frem til høsten 2011 holdt Gulating lagmannsrett også til i tinghuset.

Stilmessig er tinghuset eklektisk: hovedkroppen er preget av italiensk ungrenessanse, mens hovedinngangen med sine søyler og store buede vinduer er i nygotikk. Tinghuset er bygget i teglstein med gulv og tak av armert betong. I inngangspartiet og i interiøret er det brukt naturstein.

Ved den monumentale hovedinngangen er de fire kardinaldydene plassert; klokskap, rettferdighet, måtehold og styrke. Over inngangen vokter fire griffer (en krysning mellom løve og ørn) huset for onde makter. Skulpturene er utformet av kunstnerne Nic Schiøll og Stinius Fredriksen og hogget i larvikitt av Vestlandske Steinindustri.

Bygget er i vesentlig samme stand som da det var nytt i 1933 og det er planlagt en omfattende oppussing og ombygging for at bygget skal tilfredsstille dagens krav. Kostnadene er stipulert til 815 millioner kroner. Det er foreløpig ikke satt av midler på statsbudsjettet til prosjektet og det er uklart når oppussingen vil skje."

The courthouse in Bergen is located at Tårnplass 2. The courthouse was designed by Irish architect Egill Reimers in 1928 and the building was completed in 1933. His award-winning draft had the motto "respect for the law." The building has a total of 12,000 square meters distributed over six floors plus basement and loft. The House has 25 courts divided between the Bergen District Court and North Hordaland District Court. Until autumn 2011, Gulating Appeals were held in the courthouse.

Style-wise, the courthouse eclectic: the main body is characterized by Italian ungrenessanse, while the main entrance with its pillars and large arched windows is in Gothic Revival architecture. The courthouse is built in brick with the floors and ceilings of reinforced concrete. In the entrance and in the Interior, natural stone is used.

By the monumental main entrance the four cardinal virtues are placed; prudence, justice, temperance and strength. Above the entrance guarding are four Griffins (a cross between the lion and the Eagle) the House of evil powers. The sculptures are designed by artists Nic Schiøll and Stinius Fredriksen and carved of Stone in Norwegian industry larvikite.

The building is in the same condition as when it was new in 1933 and a comprehensive refurbishment and reconstruction of the building is planned to meet current requirements. Costs are stipulated at 815 million. The funds have not yet been set aside in the national budget for the project and it is unclear when the renovations will happen.
