Historikk: Teaterhuset i Rosenkrantzgate (nåværende Hovedscenen) åpnet som Det Nye Teater 26. februar 1929. Ble i 1959 slått sammen med Folketeatret (inklusiv Dukketeatret* – som var en del av Folketeatret) under navnet Oslo Nye Teater. I 1971 overtok teatret også driften av Centralteatret. Siden 1. januar 1999 er teatret eid av Oslo kommune.

* Fra 1966-2003 hadde Dukketeatret tilholdssted på Frogner Hovedgård, i Oslo Bymuseums lokaler. I 2003 flyttet Dukketeatret til nåværende fasiliteter i Trikkestallen på Torshov.

Teatret ble grunnlagt ved store pengeinnsamlinger under første verdenskrig, og hadde et program som først og fremst gikk ut på å oppføre norsk dramatikk.

Oslo Nye Teater operates four scenes for three theater companies: Oslo Nye Hovedscenen in Rosenkrantzgate 10, Oslo Nye Centralteatret and Teaterkjeller'n Akersgata 38 and Oslo Nye Trikkestallen in Torshovgata 33. Oslo Nye Teater AS is wholly owned by the City of Oslo.

Dane Kim Bjarke is artistic director for the period 2014-17. CEO Dag B. Sørsdahl. The theater has two-piece top management with theater director and CEO as equal partners.

History: Teaterhuset in Rosenkrantzgate (current Main Stage) opened as the New Theatre on 26 February 1929. Was in 1959 merged with Folketeatret (including Dukketeatret * - which was part of the People's Theatre) under the name Oslo Nye Teater. In 1971 took over the theater also operation of the Central Theatre. Since 1 January 1999 the theater is owned by the City of Oslo.

* From 1966-2003 had Dukketeatret haunt at Frogner Manor in Oslo City Museum premises. In 2003 moved Dukketeatret to current facilities in Trikkestallen Torshov.

The theater was founded by major fund raisers during World War I and had a program that primarily was to behave Norwegian drama.

Johan Bojer was the New Theatre's premier and most ardent advocate. The theater built its own building in Rosenkrantz 'gate 10 in Oslo, and established links with a number of good actors at the Theatre: Harald Stormoen, Henrik Aabel and Odd Frogg.
