The memorial consists of a 175 x 110 x 75-cm piece of Finnish granite with the two 29-cm bronze medallions attached to it, one on each side. The medallions are actually the front and back side of an enlarged version of the Gerda Qvists commemorative medal that was awarded to all foster parents for Finnish children by the Finnish State in 1947.
A bronze plaque at the base of the monument reads (in Danish):

Finnebørn (Finn children) is the designation for the approximately 75,000 Finnish children during the Winter War of 1939-40 and the Continuation War 1941-44 that were evacuated to the Scandinavian countries, particularly Sweden, Denmark and Norway. There came about 4,000 of the so-called Finn children to Denmark; they were distributed in foster care across the country. The majority returned to Finland after a short time, but many chose to stay in Denmark until the war was over. Just over 10% of Finnish children were in Denmark for good.
