The beach swimming area at Rangeley Lake State Park has always intrigued me. The beach is a grassy sloped hill leading to the lake, and it features three beautiful old stone stairways descending into the water. Parking, restrooms, and picnic areas are nearby.
The park is 869 acres, with a 50-site campground, boat launch, a children's play area, and hiking trails. The park is open for camping from May 15 to October 1, and a nominal fee is charged for day use.
I went swimming here in the 1960s during one of many family vacations to Rangeley. I have also been swimming many times elsewhere in Rangeley Lake. My most vivid memory was of the cold water!
