J. Buiskool Bench - Sellingen NL - Dedicated Benches on Waymarking.com

Jan Buiskool (Heveskes, January 17, 1875 - Delfzijl, February 10, 1937) was a Dutch Pastor, mayor and state inspector of the relief work.

Buiskool son of a headmaster, studied theology after his high school education in Groningen. Buiskool was successively minister of the places Anloo, Holwerd, Dronrijp and Reed and Boer. In 1919 he opted for a position in public administration and became mayor of Groningen Vlagtwedde place; Three years later he became mayor of Delfzijl, a position he would continue to play until his death in 1937.

Besides his mayoralty he was engaged in fighting unemployment in the province of Groningen. In 1923 he was appointed as state inspector of job creation and support verlee ning 'for the province of Groningen.

The inscription on the memorial stone on either side of the bench reads:

" aan J. Buiskool, oud Burgemeester van Vlagtwedde en voorzitter der N.V. Ontginningsmij " De vereenigde Groninger Gemeenten" van de gemeente Vlagtwedde, De N.V. Ontginningsmij " De vereenigde Groninger Gemeenten ", De Weiterwoldse Landbouw Maatschappij en zijn vrienden in Weterwolde "
