The Cincinnati Music Hall was built in 1878 with private funds from the nation's first matching grant fund drive. The building was designed by architect Samuel Hannaford. The Springer Auditorium has seating for 3,516, and is the home of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Opera, and the May Festival Chorus.

The Music Hall is alleged to be haunted. The Hall was built on the site of Cincinnati's the Commercial Hospital and Lunatic Hospital, where those inflicted with disease were banished to the Pest House to die. When they died they were dumped into mass graves in the pauper's cemetery, directly under the Music Hall. Night watchmen supposedly have heard strange noises and have been followed by the ghosts, which have also been alleged to sometimes make appearances at shows.

The Cincinnati Music Hall hosted the 1880 Democratic National Convention.
