On the day we passed through Charlottetown the cruise ship Black Watch, an 868 passenger cruise ship, was in port. She left right around 6 PM that evening. The next day, the Maasdam, a 1258 passenger ship, was due to arrive at 0800.
Charlottetown, known in Canada as the birthplace of Confederation, is a busy cruise ship port and tourist town, seeing 75 cruise ships pass through from May to October in 2015. With the opening of a second berth in 2007, the port has two berths at the terminal, the largest capable of receiving ships as large as the 293 metre, 2490 passenger Serenade of the Seas. Ships from at least eight cruise ship lines visit Charlottetown regularly.
Charlottetown, the site of the first meetings held to discuss Canadian Confederation, is one of Canada's oldest cities, founded by French settlers in 1720. Though later taken over by the British, the city and the Island retain sprinklings of French flavour throughout. The city has retained a great many historic sites and buildings, many dating from the eighteenth century.
