What was once the largest gold mine in the world, Mount Morgan ceased production in the 1980's. The town of Mount Morgan is still relatively large relying now on distant coal mines & tourism.
The town is isolated in that it is located in mountainous country with the road to the provincial capital of Rockhampton having a 40 kilometre per hour speed limit for several kilometres. This has necessitated a permanently manned fire brigade.
The fire brigade's doors are open during the day ready for call-outs which may involve fires, motor vehicle accidents or incidents in surrounding communities.
The brigade officers are a mixture of permanent & volunteer staff.
