Desert Gold
One of the world’s most incredible flower fields is in a place that is usually associated with barren desert, droughts and death. Death Valley is famous for its sand dunes, its rocky canyons and the lowest point in the western hemisphere. Only few people know that it is one of the most amazing places to watch wild flowers. Every year, after the winter mud-floods, the desert is in bloom for a short period of time. Specific blooming times vary but in general, the best time is (of course) spring. The Death Valley Visitors Center has detailed information at (760)786-3200 and the Death Valley Wildflowers website is a good help too, especially when it comes to identifying flowers.
The pictures at this site feature mainly Desert Gold (Gerea canescens), found in a field near Ashford Junction in the south of the park.

Qualifyer: I don't have a picture with a GPS, but my last visit at this field was also my daughter's birthday.

The wildflowers here are so incredible, they inspired me to a short story which can be found here. For more on my visit to Death Valley, visit my homepage.
The place is also the location of the Ashford Mills Ghost Town waymark.
