Charles I. Gorman was born on July 6, 1897 in St. John, New Brunswick. He competed in the 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France and in the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Charles I. Gorman dominated the sport of speed skating in North America during the mid-1920s.

Despite his impressive list of records, including being an Olympic finalist, he never won an Olympic medal. In 1924 he finished 7th in the 500 meters event and 11th in the 1500 meters competition. In 1928 he finished 7th in the 500 meters event and 12th in the 1500 meters competition.
