A sandstone chimney located on an abandoned opal mine in the area known as the 9 mile.

Opal mining areas such as this are called camps & here you will find active & abandoned mines & shacks of all descriptions.

The chimney was used by a miner to smoke his food & according to a local, there was never a shack attached to it. Food smoked would have included chickens, emu, kangaroo, feral pigs, sheep & goats. I've tasted emu & you would need to boil it for a week before smoking it!

Watch your step as there are many deep mine shafts in the area & not all are covered.
