Kraftwerk Riehenteich - Basel, Switzerland - Hydroelectric Power Stations on Waymarking.com

EN: The Riehenteich is a channel system north of Basel, where since the 13th century the water from the river Wiese was derived for irrigation and operation of mills and sawmills. Most of the channels were shut down in the early 20th century. The last section of approximately 800 meters leads to the hydroelectric plant built in 1923, from where it is directed back into the river underground.

The power plant produces about 450,000 kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the average consumption of about 100 households. But the energy is mainly used for the nearby pumping stations where by groundwater recharge around half of the Basel drinking water is deliverd.

DE: Der Riehenteich ist ein Kanalsystem nördlich von Basel, in das seit dem 13. Jahrhundert Wasser des Flusses Wiese zur Bewässerung und den Betrieb von Mühlen und Sägewerken abgeleitet wurde. Der grösste Teil der Kanäle wurde im frühen 20. Jahrhundert stillgelegt. Das letzte Teilstück von rund 800 Metern Länge führt zum 1923 erbauten Wasserkraftwerk, von wo es unterirdisch zurück in den Fluss geleitet wird.

Das Kraftwerk produziert etwa 450'000 kWh Strom pro Jahr, das entspricht dem durchschnittlichen Verbrauch von etwa 100 Haushalten. Die Energie wird aber hauptsächlich für die nahe gelegenen Pumpanlagen verwendet, wo mittels Grundwasseranreicherung rund die Hälfte des Basler Trinkwassers gefördert wird.
