The Galion Iron Works was founded in 1907 by David Charles Boyd and his 3 brothers. They invented many different types of machines including drag scrapers, plows, slip scrapers and road graders. The Galion Pony road grader was invented in 1911, it was a horse drawn road grader. They went on to build larger tractor drawn graders and in 1922 built the first self propelled motor grader. The company was bought by Jeffreys Manufacturing co. in 1929 but kept the name and in 1974 became a division of Dresser Industries. In 1988 it became part of the Komatsu Dresser Co.
