The 160km Barwon River rises in the Otway Ranges and flows towards Geelong.
The smaller Moorabool River starts further north in the Wombat State Forest and joins the Barwon River at Fyansford, Geelong.
The river then flows further south towards Bass Strait, with its mouth at Barwon Heads.
