The fortification has been built 1834-1855.
The foundation stone includes a time capsule wich has been placed in 1834. It was opened in 1937.

'Grundstein der Festung Germersheim
Gelegt am 18.Oktober 1834 dem Gedächtnistage der Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig. Enthielt Bildnisse der königl. Familie, den Grundriss der Festung, Geschichtstaler, Armeekennzeichen 1813/14, Münzen u.a. Gehoben 1937 feierliche Öffnung am 18.Oktober 1937.'
