After taking the Palm Springs Aerial Tram (that is not free) up to about 8500 feet the campsite is another 2 miles from the station. The campground is at 9100 feet. Individual campsites surround a meadow and are set far apart to give the impression of being alone. There is a single source of water for the entire campground that needs to be treated. A series of pit outhouses dot the campground.

Rangers check for a wilderness permit regularly. They are free and available by mail from the park website. direct link to permit application

At this elevation, the area gets quite a bit of snow and snow camping is allowed.

The area is definately quiet, but you are still close enough to city lights to make the night sky only average. We stopped here for the night on our way up to San Jacinto Peak.

Number of tent spaces: Four or more

Access to Campsite: Palm Springs Aerial Tram then backpack

Special Features:
Quiet and scenic. On route to San Jacinto Peak.
