EN: The Nature Museum of Olten goes back to a natural history collection, which was opened to the public for the first time in 1873. The collection was first exhibited in a room of a school. When the school moved to a new location in 1899, the museum was finally extended. Until 1972, the museum spaces already occupied three floors.

From 1972 to 1980, the Museum was completely redesigned. The Natural History Museum was renamed in Nature Museum for the reopening in 1981 and has since focused on the nature of the surrounding area. All exotic subareas were given away and the remaining departments grouped by habitats. The main objective of the museum is to teach the ecological relationships of the local area.

The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 14:00-17:00, on Sunday from 10:00-17:00.

DE: Das Naturmuseum Olten geht auf eine naturhistorische Sammlung zurück, die 1873 erstmals der Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht wurde. Die Sammlung war zuerst im Zimmer eines Schulhauses ausgestellt. Als die Schule 1899 an einen neuen Standort verlegt wurde, konnte das Museum endlich erweitert werden. Bis 1972 belegten die Museumsräume schon drei Stockwerke.

Von 1972 bis 1980 wurde das Museum völlig neu gestaltet. Das Naturhistorische Museum wurde zur Neueröffnung 1981 in Naturmuseum umbenannt und konzentriert sich seither auf die Natur der näheren Umgebung. Alle exotischen Teilbereiche wurden abgegeben und die verbliebenen Abteilungen nach Lebensräumen gruppiert. Das Hauptziel des Museums ist die Vermittlung der ökologischen Zusammenhänge.

Das Museum ist Dienstag bis Samstag von 14-17 Uhr geöffnet, am Sonntag von 10-17 Uhr.
