EN: The Kunstmuseum Olten is located in a former residential and commercial building next to the town church. The collection goes back to the mid-19th century and originally consisted of works by the famous local painter and political cartoonist Martin Disteli (1802-1844). After 1905, works by other local artists were added, and after the founding of the Kunstverein in 1914 works from all over Switzerland. In 1964, the former Martin-Disteli Museum was officially renamed to Kustmuseum.
Today, the museum houses a collection of Swiss art of national importance with works from the 19th century to the present. In addition to works by Ferdinand Hodler, Giacometti, Cuno Amiet, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Varlin and Martin Disteli, there are also many lesser known local artists to discover.
DE: Das Kunstmuseum Olten befindet sich in einem ehemaligen Wohn- und Geschäftshaus gleich neben der Stadtkirche. Die Sammlung geht auf die Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts zurück und bestand ursprünglich aus Werken des bekannten Oltener Malers und politischen Karikaturisten Martin Disteli (1802-1844). Ab 1905 kamen andere Werke lokaler Künstler dazu, nach der Gründung des Kunstvereins 1914 auch Werke aus der ganzen Schweiz. 1964 wurde das Martin-Disteli-Museum offiziell in Kustmuseum umbenannt.
Heute beherbergt das Museum ein Sammlung von Schweizer Kunst von überregionaler Bedeutung mit Werken vom 19. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart Neben Werken von Ferdinand Hodler, Alberto Giacometti, Cuno Amiet, Sophie Taeuber-Arp, Varlin und Martin Disteli sind auch viele weniger bekannte, lokale Künstler zu entdecken.
