EN: This obelisk is located on the banks of the Aare, north of the center of Olten. It is a memorial to four important citizens of the city. The obelisk is around four meters high and has engraved on each side the portaits and the names of these individuals:
Josef Munzinger (1791-1855) was from 1848 one of the first seven federal councilors and federal president in 1851. Among other things he was responsible for the introduction of the decimal system and the Swiss franc.
Ildefons von Arx (1755-1833) was an imoprtant historian of the late 18th century, the librarian of the convent library St. Gallen and a local politician.
Johann Jakob Trog (1807-1867) was a politician in the Grand Council of Solothurn and the National Council, also federal judge and director of the Swiss Central Railway.
Martin Disteli (1802-1844) was a painter and political cartoonist.
DE: Dieser Obelisk befindet sich am Aareufer nördlich der Altstadt von Olten. Es ist ein Denkmal für vier bedeutende Bürger der Stadt. Der Obelisk ist etwa vier Meter hoch und hat auf jeder Seite das Portait und den Namen einer dieser Persönlichkeiten eingraviert:
