Steve Baker built this waterwheel around 1905 on his 8.5 acre property at what is now 465 Falls Rd, Strath Creek. It is a 4.2m diameter wheel, 60cm wide with 32 buckets and originally had a shaft output power of about 4.5 horsepower. It powered a stamping battery, probably 3 heads, which crushed the rock.
This waterwheel was the last to survive in the area. The remnants were burnt in the February 2009 bush fires, which finally destroyed the few remaining framing timbers.
The restored waterwheel was placed here at Pioneer Reserve as a reminder of the gold mining past of Strath Creek.
