This nuclear power plant is located a few miles outside of Oswego, N.Y., and is on the shore of Lake Ontario. I
recall driving past this cooling tower a year or so ago and was able to drive within a few hundred feet, however,
now there is a security checkpoint about a 1/4 mile back from the stack. So I wasn't able to get a good close-up of the stack, but it can be seen for miles in all directions and the steam can be seen on the horizon from about 20 miles away. I also took a pic. of the sign at the entrance as well. It is the second oldest reactor still in operation in the country. It has had only one incident that required an emergency plan be activated back in 1981, when a power outage caused the computers to switch to back up batteries, unfortunately the batteries had exceeded their lifespan and were not able to support the computers as needed. No other damage was done, however, the plant was shut down for several weeks while tests and upgrades were performed.
