The truck, transporting a 14-tonne block of granite, was hit by the train at the passively-protected level crossing at 4pm on the 28th April 2006.
The two-carriage V/Line train with 36 passengers hit the B-double-truck at the Ercildoune Road level crossing near Trawalla in country Victoria, about 40 kilometres west of Ballarat.
The granite boulder thrown was off the truck, and the train was derailed.
The deceased were a Pacific National employee in the driver's compartment and a passenger. The train driver was cleared of all charges.
There is an old plaque at this intersection, commemorating Trawalla as the birthplace of James Scullin, Australia's 9th Prime Minister.
