Harrington Sound is a pretty interesting place, since the water flows in or out depending on the tide.

For decades around the turn of the century, this boat crank was used to help boats in or out of the water at the Flatts Inlet to Harrington Sound, regardless of the height of the water.

There used to be a big cable on the machine, which would help move boats smoothly along the rock skids of the public boat ramp here.

Today, there are easier and less labor intensive ways to get your boat to float, so this machine stands as a display piece by the inlet.
