Aquarium of the Lakes is in the village of Lakeside, at south end of Windermere (lake). The aquarium tries to tell the story of aquatic life from mountain to sea, hence freshwater and saltwater exhibits, as well as cute freshwater otters. Well worth a visit for otters alone

Facilities
Cafes, Lakeside Hotel, Toilets, Row boat hire, heritage steam railway, lake 'steamers', ice creams and free parking. You are on the wharf next to Windermere lake. Small beach with ducks to feed in front of hotel.
Windermere is England's longest lake, with passenger carrying 'steamers'. The steamers still call at Lakeside and the railway is now a steam-hauled heritage railway, operated as the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway. However, it now only operates as far as Haverthwaite. Added attractions for a full day out.
