At the front of St Mary at the Elms church is a modern bronze statue of a girl sitting cross-legged handling a ball of clay. Named ‘Tam’, the sculpture was created by Honoria Surie in 1995.

"Bronze statue mounted on an irregular hexagonal stone plinth: lifesize naturalistic portrait of a teenage girl sitting cross-legged in dungarees molding a ball of clay.

Affectionate portrait of the artist's daughter. The ball of clay is a reference to pottery. When Tam attended the unveiling the spectators were amused that her punk image bore little resemblance to that projected in the sculpture."
