The Three Gorges Dam Project on the Yangtze River is the largest hydro project in the world. The construction began in 1993 nd was completed in 2009. The Three Gorges Dam has been designed to control frequent floods in the middle and down stream areas of the Yantzye, generating hydropower, enhancing shipping capability of the upper Yangtze.
