Op zaterdag 24 juni 1950 - op het feest van St. Jan de Doper, patroonheilige van de parochie - wordt de grond van het kerkterrein ingezegend. Eind november 1950 is men zover dat het dak geplaatst kan worden. Op 8 december 1950 was het werk klaar en de bouwvakkers gingen - het was al laat geworden - op weg naar huis naar hun gezinnen in Drente. De dag werd echter een rampdag. Bij mistig weer en gladde weg reden zij door de leuning van de brug over het Linthorst-Homankanaal en vielen in het koude water. Alle zes mensen verdronken. De kerkelijke inwijding vond plaats op zondag 29 april 1951. Op zondag 22 juni 2014 - het patroonfeest van Johannes de Doper - is de laatste dienst gehouden. De parochie zoekt voor de kerk een nieuwe eigenaar en bestemming.
On Saturday, June 24th, 1950 - the feast of St. John the Baptist, patron saint of the parish - the Churchground was consecrated. In late November 1950, the roof could be placed. On December 8, 1950 all work was finished and the construction workers went - it was already late - on the way home to their families in Drenthe. However, the day turned into disaster. In foggy weather and slippery road they rode through the railing of the bridge over the canal Linthorst-Homan and fell into the cold water. All six people drowned. The church consecration took place on Sunday, April 29, 1951. On Sunday, June 22, 2014 - the Patronfeast of Saint John the Baptist - the last worship service was held. The parish is looking for a new owner and destination for this Church.
