"Boasting features that were not available on the old pier, destroyed in 2004 by Hurricane Ivan, the Gulf State Park Pier offers features such as indoor seating for concession area, indoor retail area for tackle and souvenirs, comfort stations at the midpoint of the pier (seen in picture above) and wheelchair accessible rail fishing. The new pier has 2448 feet of fishing space available along the rails.
Gulf State Park is home to some of the finest and most scenic fishing in Alabama. Whether you desire a sensational saltwater experience from fishing on the pier or a freshwater fishing from breathtaking Lake Shelby , there is something here for most fishermen who are wanting to have a good time and indulge in a time of aquatic sport and discovery.

My commentary:
Easy to find along East Beach Boulevard. There is plenty of free parking. My wife and I went to the pier at sunset to sightsee and people watch - it was actually really pretty fun. My wife got to see a shark take someone's fish - luckily we didn't have any kids with us because of the "colorful" language used by the fisherman afterwards. There is signage all along the pier explaining the history, the geology, and the wildlife around the pier. Tackle is rented and sold and licenses are sold on the pier at a very nice concession area.
