Very near the geographical centre of Riverside Park stands this tall obelisk-like cairn made of mortared and river worn stones. It was erected atop a concrete pad and bears a bronze plaque on the southeast face. The base is surrounded by concrete mock tiles. The cairn was erected some time ago to honour those men and women who gave their lives in defence of their country and its freedom. The text of the plaque follows:

DEDICATED TO THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN
WHO SERVED THEIR COUNTRY
AND GAVE THEIR TOMORROWS
THAT WE MAY HAVE OUR TODAYS.

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.
